Madrid: Bespoke design in portable format for El Moderno Gallery

Collaborating with shops that understand design as part of a city's identity is always a pleasure. This is the case with El Moderno Gallery, a landmark space in Madrid with locations in iconic neighborhoods like La Latina (Cava Baja, 47) and Malasaña.

The Commission: Madrid’s neighborhoods "to go"

The audience at El Moderno is dynamic and, largely, travelers. Therefore, the challenge was not just to design a map of Madrid, but to drill down into the details of its neighborhoods and do so in formats that allow customers to easily carry them in a backpack or suitcase.

Adapting design and scale

For this exclusive collection, I worked on two levels:

  1. Neighborhood identity: I designed specific prints of La Latina and Malasaña , capturing the unique layout of these areas where their shops are located.

  2. Format optimization: I adapted my bespoke designs to smaller sizes without losing the sharpness guaranteed by Giclée printing. Although the design is 100% Spanish and originates in my studio, production in the Netherlands allows me to maintain that technical quality even in smaller dimensions.

Design as a high-quality keepsake

Often, city souvenirs fall into the generic. With this series for El Moderno Gallery, we offer an alternative: a professional graphic design piece that encapsulates the essence of Madrid in a sober and elegant way.

If you are strolling through central Madrid, I invite you to visit their shops and see how these neighborhoods look in small format.
